Maybe it wasn't the title they were shooting for -- they were driving hard for the state's top spot -- but Green Wave golf team members can hold their heads high. The team earned top honors in the Non-Public A bracket at the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions on May 24, 2010 at the Rumson Country Club and ended the tourney in fifth place overall.

The Green Wave, a pre-tourney favorite, finished 10 strokes behind overall champion Hunterdon Central. Ramapo defeated Hopewell Valley in a match of cards -- both teams finished with identical scores of 318-- for second place overall. Rumson was next, one shot ahead of Delbarton.

The Green Wave team's lone senior, Bobby Kaminski '10, was philosophical in his comments to a Daily Record reporter after the tournament. "It's still a state championship," Kaminski said. "And we had a great season. We had a chance to play for it all and that's all you can ask for. We went out and played the sport we love with the best players in the state. There's nothing wrong with that."

Their coach, Sean Flanagan, summed up the team's stellar season this way: "I'm proud of these kids," Flanagan told the Daily Record. "They were consistent all year long. Not only these four, but all six of our golfers. We didn't have another single golfer break into the rotation. These guys kept their spots all year and they won all the big tournaments, went undefeated and had a great year. They were rock solid." Congratulations to the team bringing home a state championship title. We are proud of you, boys...Go Wave Golf!
