Wave Baseball Named Team & Coach of the Year

The Green Wave varsity baseball team was recently named the 2008 All Daily Record Baseball Team of the Year and its coach, Bruce Shatel, was designated the Baseball Coach of the Year for his efforts during his first year as the team's head coach.

The New Jersey Interscholastic Lacrosse Coaches Association recently released their All-American list and Delbarton's Chad Wiedmaier ’08 was chosen Defenseman of the Year.

Inside Lacrosse Preseason Poll Ranks Delbarton 9th in US

In the STX/Inside Lacrosse Preseason Top 25 High School Poll released on February 20th Delbarton is ranked ninth nationally in high school lacrosse. Perennial Green Wave lacrosse rival Mountain Lakes is three spots above at sixth. Mountain Lakes beat the Green Wave in the 2007 state finals after Delbarton went undefeated in the season. High school teams from Maryland and New York round out the top spots. For the record the preseason top ten programs in high school lacrosse are: 1. Loyola-Blakefield (MD)

3. West Islip (NY)
4. Manhasset (NY)
5. Georgetown Prep (MD)

Marino Breaks School Shot Put Record

Congratulations to Steve Marino '08 for setting a new Delbarton School shot put record. His throw of 52-11.75 overtakes the mark of 52-10.50 set by Steve Bienko in 1994. Steve’s record throw was at the NJSIAA State Relay Championship Meet on January 11, 2008.

Athletes Sign Division I Letters

On February 6, 2008 Andy Bell '08 and Matt Van Orden '08 signed letters of commitment to play Division I football: Bell was recruited as a kicker/punter by Bucknell University and Van Orden will play left guard for Fordham University.

Swim Team Takes County Title

Delbarton's swim team upset Mountain Lakes High School to win the Morris County Championship on February 2nd. The Lakers were four time county champs while Delbarton hadn’t won the title since 1999.

Sullivan '08 Scores 1,000 Points!

On January 24 senior forward Pat Sullivan '08 scored the 1,000th point in his high school basketball career during an away game against DePaul High School. Sullivan joins an exclusive group of only six other Green Wave athletes to achieve this accomplishment.

Whalen Wins 300 Games

Green Wave Varsity Basketball's Dan Whalen had his 300th coaching win on January 22, 2008 in front of an enthusiastic home game crowd. Whalen's players celebrated a 52-44 win over Madison High, and seventh straight victory, by presenting their coach with a commemorative plaque and a cake inscribed "Congratulations Coach Whalen on 300 Wins!"

Swim Team Wins Conference Title

Here’s how Daily Record sports writer Brendan Kuty described the Green Wave Varsity Swim team’s weekend accomplishments at William Paterson University:
“No screaming, no shouting. No whooping, no hollering. The Delbarton swim team acted as if it had won a Northern Hills Conference championship before. It had, in fact. Five times. The Green Wave picked up a sixth straight NHC title on Saturday at William Paterson University with 370 points and a slew of meet records.”

Devon Gobbo '12 Wins National Wrestling Tournament

On Saturday, January 19th, Delbarton eighth grader Devon Gobbo won the 53rd Annual Cliff Keen Tulsa National Wrestling Tournament in the 15 & Under 103 pound division. Billed as the ‘Toughest Youth Wrestling Tournament in the World’ the Tulsa Nationals features over 3000 wrestlers from over 40 states.

On January 5th Coach Craig Paris ’82 and the Delbarton varsity squash team hosted a match at Drew University versus StreetSquash from Harlem, NY.
