Campaign for Delbarton
Delbarton is a proving ground where everyone's internal compass points toward excellence. The School never wavers in its commitment to the challenging of limits, the stretching of abilities and the broadening of horizons.
To build on Delbarton's solid foundation - and to position the School to attain even high levels of distinction - we have embarked on an ambitious, comprehensive fund-raising effort. It is called the Campaign for Delbarton. Its theme is IN SUPPORT OF EXCELLENCE.
The Campaign will help Delbarton fulfill its mission by:
Constructing long-overdue facilities where students can develop their artistic and athletic skills.
Funding the renovation of Old Main, Trinity Hall and the Dining Hall to accommodate changes that have occurred over the decades.
Greatly increasing Delbarton's endowment - the financial base that supports faculty, maintains facilities, improves programs, supplies financial aid to qualified students, and does much more.
THE CASE FOR . . .
Improved Athletic Facilities
At Delbarton, there is a place for both academics and athletics - and one supports the other in a student's life. We believe that much can be learned about cooperation, competition and character through participating in athletics. We honor this credo by sponsoring a wide variety of interscholastic and intramural sports from middle school to varsity level. But while we have a magnificent 400-acre property, we have few adequate facilities for athletics. The vagaries of weather wreak havoc on many playing fields, particularly in the soccer, lacrosse and track-and-field areas. To solve these problems, we need to incorporate such technological advances as all-weather track surfaces and grass-like artificial turf. Tentative plans also include a new baseball diamond, a new club house and additional fields for soccer and lacrosse.
Key Building Renovations
Old Main , the most beloved building on campus, is now more than 120 years old. Symbolizing tradition, stability and solidity, it has served the Delbarton community well for six decades. Now, it must be modernized by renovating its interior while preserving its best historic features. Engineering studies have verified the structure's overall safety, but restoration is required to bring Old Main up to code for walls, windows, ceilings, roofing and stairways. Early architectural plans also contemplate installing an elevator and rearranging sectors of the building for more efficient operation of administrative, reception and student offices.
Trinity Hall, Delbarton's main classroom building, needs new windows and a variety of upgrades. In addition, the Dining Hall, unimproved for four decades, requires renovation that includes making it compliant with ADA regulations.
Increased Financial Aid
A Delbarton education is a privilege, but it must never be solely for the financially privileged. Some wonderfully gifted students cannot afford our tuition - but, for countless reasons, we cannot afford to close our doors to them. We know from experience that investing in our students' success pays off handsomely in their futures and in Delbarton's education.
Increasing the amount of funds available for financial aid will allow us to attract a diverse group of talented students and to admit them solely on academic and personal merit. Such students bring a variety of life experiences to the classroom, promoting free-ranging discussion from fresh perspectives. Finally, increasing financial aid is our responsibility to both the local community and the Church
More Support For Faculty and Programs
Creative, skilled and dedicated teaching is Delbarton's lifeblood. Delbarton's teachers have served as one-on-one mentors to three generations of students. In keeping with their enduring commitment to excellence, we must offer our faculty additional opportunities for personal and professional growth. These could include faculty chairs, sabbaticals, advanced research programs and other continuing education programs.
The Campaign for Delbarton will support an array of programs - including Community Service projects, Campus Ministry and Leadership Training - that will ensure that learning and personal growth continue well beyond the classroom, making students more well-rounded and prepared for fuller lives.
A Stronger Delbarton Fund
Unrestricted annual gifts enhance a student's day-to-day life at Delbarton by allowing income to be applied wherever it is most needed, from scholarships and curricular endeavors to athletics, co-curricular activities and technology.
The Delbarton Fund consistently provides 10 percent of the School's annual operating budget. As the seven-year Campaign for Delbarton progresses, we will seek to increase our base of unrestricted annual giving to meet ongoing operating costs in current and new facilities and to hold the line against tuition increases. Gifts to the annual Delbarton Fund will be counted in the Campaign for Delbarton's total. During the Campaign period, donors will be encouraged to
maintain and even increase unrestricted gifts to the Delbarton Fund.
